Q: how much weight can this product support when sitting on the bench?

I weigh 160 pounds and whenever I sit on the bench, it creaks and sounds like it is about to crack. I just put it up today and I am hoping it only creaks and doesn't crack.

Q: Can you remove one of the shelves?

Yes. I removed the middle shelf so my boots would fit under the seat. Removal of that shelf did not hinder the sturdiness of the unit.

Q: What are the dimensions of the top shelf?

It's about 30" Wx 7.9" H for the top shelf and 30"W x 6.3" H for the bottom shelf. You can also see the picture displayed on the product page to get more information. Hope this helps.
