I would think up to about 50. Maybe more. If it helps, I've currently got an A4 spiral bound notebook in mine, plus two 40 sheet writing pads, plus about 20 DL envelopes, plus several sheets in each compartment. Plus 2 pens in the side pocket. It zips closed without any struggles. I love it and use it almost every day. I hope that helps!
