A necessary GR component
Think of the GR3x as $1299 camera with a optical viewfinder, not as a $240 add on. Photographers will buy a $1000 camera body knowing that they will need to buy at least a $300-400 lens to shoot photos. Basically the same cost as a complete GR3x but instead of having to buy a lens it’s a optical viewfinder. The Ricoh GR models don’t include a flip back, weather sealing, or electronic viewfinder. I know we dream of having them, but it is what it is. No need to factor that against it’s strengths. Big bulky cameras are always available with all those features except they won’t fit in your pocket.I purchased the GV3 viewfinder because:1) I can frame up a scene without turning the camera on.2) It’s easier to compose in bright sunlight.3) Holding the camera to the eye, especially in low light, allows for steadier shots.

Necessary, but very over priced
The Ricoh GR IIIX is an excellent camera for street photography except in direct sunlight where you cannot see the back screen because it does not articulate. This viewfinder is the solution. While it is challenging for those who wear glasses like myself, it provides enough orientation to allow pictures when you cannot see the back screen. It's well made and would have been better if the was EVF and a bit bigger. I use it like a gun sight, leaving a bit of room for framing error. It works this way for me. It is the most overpriced piece of camera gear I have purchased.

If you think you need this, you probably don't.
I was on the fence when buying this wondering if I needed it and what it would actually do. It does not provide an accurate framing for your shot just a rough estimate. The closer you get to your subject, the more off it will be. It is not illuminated, I thought that it might be for the price but it is not. It does not show what is in focus and what is out of focus. I guess it is just an overpriced rough guide to where you are pointing the camera at? It also protrudes from the top of the camera in a way that makes this cool little camera less compact now. The whole point I guess to having a GRiiix is the small size and this ruins some of that. I can't recommend this add-on and I think maybe if it was $50 or less I might keep it, but even then I would probably not use it very much given the lack of accuracy.
