IT WORKS
We had a significant cluster fly problem in our shop loft; seriously, had to be thousands of flies up there. Tried hanging fly strips, which was useless with that number of flies (or even if we only had a few--who wants those things hanging down all over the place?). Tried those small sticky traps--the kind you put near your baseboards for insects and mice--and those caught quite a few flies, but only if they happened to land on them, and they were too small for our purpose. Tried leaning them up against the windows, but they eventually "flowed" down the backing and made gooey messes on our sills. Tried the window sticky fly traps from Black Flag--worked great, but then you see all these flies stuck on the windows. Then we heard about light fly traps, and after reading the reviews, decided on this Gardner WS 85 model. Well, within one minute of installing this light (which was so easy--hang it up using the provided screws, place one of the long sticky traps on the ledge under the lamp in the fixture, and plug it in), there were a dozen flies on the trap! And they just kept coming--the light drew them in, and the sticky trap nabbed'em. The instructions said to change the trap every month, but we had to replace them every day for the first week (as I mentioned, we had a pretty serious infestation), and now we change it every few days; the fly population has diminished significantly, and we are hopeful this will keep them under control until we can deal with preventive measures next spring. In fact, we are so pleased with how this fly trap works we bought another, in the hopes that having multiple units will really keep their numbers in check for the time being.PROS: Fast delivery, easy installation, draws the flies (and other insects as well!) to the trap, trap is sticky enough to hold insects, easy to change traps, no chemicals or odors to deal with, the fixture is decent-looking, of decent quality, and holds the trap in such a way that you don't have to see all the insects on them; IT WORKS!CONS: A bit pricey, so are the replacement traps and light bulbs, but for our purposes well worth it; cheaper than an exterminator! To be fair, I've seen regular light fixtures that are not as nice looking as this one that cost more.

Great for life in the country
I bought this sconce for our home when we moved out to the country 8 1/2 years ago, and couldn't be happier with it. We have woods on one side and horses on the other. So a LOT of flying bugs find their way into our house, and most of them find their way into the trap pretty quickly. Fills within a few weeks with moths, gnats, wasps, houseflies, and mosquitos. The original ballast lasted for those 8 1/2 years, with the light on nearly constantly. It's finally gone bad. Finding a replacement it is as easy as searching for the catalog number (IG13-20EL) here on Amazon and paying $20 (as of March 2024). Installation takes 10 minutes, and requires nothing more than screwing and unscrewing wire nuts.

It does work as advertised. My one complaint would be that it is a lot pricier than other traps that work just as good. I have an electronic one that works just as well. This fly trap however does look a lot better and there is no annoying zap when a fly lands on the sticky trap. The glue boards are somewhat expensive but if looks are more important that cost this is a good way to go.

works well
looking back at old order to get a replacement bulb size. saw a few negative comments thought i would share my experience. we have a log home. in the fall flys find their way in. this was the answer. we have sealed the gaps and no longer have a problem but still use this for the few that get in. works best at night. i buy the glue pads at hardware store for under $1 each instead of the expensive replacement. This was the game changer for us.

Perfect solution
As a small town sorcerer, it was difficult for me to find a local fly trap solution that worked for my purposes. I didn't need any odoriferous liquid mixtures, as my brewing den already has ample enough pungent fumes to attract these tasty creatures. I also didn't need unsightly glue paper destroying my home's carefully planned feng shui. The Gardner WS-85 Wall Sconce Fly Light Trap works perfectly to entice flies in an easy, elegant fashion. The pale blue light emitted is a lovely splash of color for your decor. What's more, the glue board is gentle, and allows easy removal for whatever uses you have for the frail little guests.Look into the light my pretties! LOOK INTO THE LIGHT!!

Love product but this one arrived not working.
I had bought this product in past but bought this one it said used but was only due to original damaged box. I was waiting for a remodeling to finish before installing. I opened box there was no packing in top of box which probably did not help the product to not work. I was under the impression that light was in good working order but it also looks like the product was used at one point and not returned with all of packing material which I assumed would be checked before selling to another customer especially one who purchases regularly off Amazon. It is past return date, I should have opened right away but have never had an issues with unworking items being resold to me, I will be careful buying anything other than brand new in the future.

Low capture rate
Location: front of a restaurant. Results: didn't capture very many house flies. (5 or 6 in 3 weeks), every day we still have to swat and spray in the front of the restaurant. Not sure if the bulb is the right UV wavelength or what. It did catch a lot of fruit flies.

Follow instructions and it really does work!
We live in the country and this is part of our fly war. It works great to catch the flies that evaded the fly predators we put out, the sprays, and then the indoor sticky fly trap tapes. Yes it is all out war on flies in cattle country and I love having this in one of the entry rooms. But read the instructions. House has to be DARK as in no light at all at night to attract the little beggars to the trap.
