I tried it out for the first time today. I had no idea what I was doing so simply followed the directions, and it was super easy to test the water with the provided booklet. The results pop up quickly, and I was able to easily read the results with the provided color chart. It tells you within the chart if a value is within the "okay" range, which I appreciate. It comes with 100 test strips and two bacteria tests. Overall, I'm really happy with the product and the information it provided me.

I sometimes deep fry foods and clean/filter my oil after every use, typically tossing the oil as soon as it smells off, but wanted a more scientific way to check the safety of old oil. This is a standard titration kit that measures oleic acid/free fatty acid content of fryer oil. I was surprised to see that my fryer oil, which I was thinking was too old to use any more, was well within the safe range. I think this kit is most useful for people who deep fry in a tempura pot or enameled cast iron pot since it's much harder to keep the oil clean in a manual frying setup, and those burned bits are a big contributor to oil rancidity. For anyone who reuses frying fats this is a cheap safety measure, and you will either figure out it's time to get rid of that ancient pot of bacon fat you've been using for a year or will save money not sending gallons of perfectly good frying oil to the hazardous waste center.

These test strips, unfortunately, are the kind of thing that are a bit difficult to properly and fully evaluate due to the fact that I don't have an objective means of verifying their accuracy. What I did do, because it was the only thing I could come up with, was to test a bit of unused, but slightly old oil with one of them and got a result that was not at the "best" end of the scale (I expect because it is a little past it's prime) but not in the "get rid of it now!" range either... basicallly it tested right where I felt it should have, so I have decent confidence that they do what they say they do. Should I encounter anything to change my mind I will update this review, but I am satisfied at this point.Recommended!

The strip is made out of plastic. It melts if it stays more than half a second in hot oil.

These test strips are easier to use than COVID or pregnancy tests. I just opened the secure cap on the bottle, pulled out a slender paper strip, and dipped the end with the test pad (obvious because there’s a little square on top of the paper, although it’s white on white) into the oil for 2 seconds, waited 30 seconds, and compared the color against the key on the side of the bottle. I got this to test my cooking oils, which we keep in the pantry for many months. Our several months old bottle of olive oil tested in the good range, which was reassuring. As the bottle gets older, we’ll keep testing it once a month to see if the color progresses along the range.
