Works great even without the bottom crossbar.
We got this to display banner at events. We normally only use the 10' wide banner when we have a tent setup, but now we can use it inside as well. The stand was easy enough to setup by myself. Even without the bottom crossbar, it's pretty stable. I still secured it to the corner of our tables and put the table legs on top of the bases to be on the safe side. The poles are nice and thick compared to some other banner stands I've seen and are labeled so you know where they go and which direction you rotate them to loosen and tighten them. The crossbar poles should be extended before attaching them to the side poles. You may need to loosen and re-tighten it so that you can get the ends to line up properly. The side poles are a little tricky to raise and tighten. You want to focus on extending one section at a time and tightening it. You'll may need to loosen and re-tighten the bottom section at the end so that the base faces the correct direction.

Looks good, attachments not so much
This backdrop stand looks tough and sturdy. I returned the item because of the way the poles attach. It uses the little nobs that snap into hole in other pole. I have not had luck with this type of attachment as I have gone through two like this. The ones that work better are the ones that screw together.

Great for studio lightweight backgrounds - Overrated for portability
The Fudsey has a lot of things that are better than a huge majority of background stands/racks on the market. There is a lot to like and a few that I am disappointed about.First the good:This is an ingenious stand in the way that the expansion works. The twist locks are solid and the design was really well thought out, especially the top section of the vertical. The top cap (screw cap for the horizontal) is free floating on the top post allowing me to lock in the height while keeping the stand and screw in perfect alignment. And the most important positive for this stand is the infinite adjustability to the width for the many odd-sized backgrounds that I have. I have one often-used background that is 7'7" wide and 7' tall. In the past, I have had to use either a 6 or 8-foot wide stand which either is just a pain to use for this background, On the 8 a lot of top and bottom clamps are required to make it smooth and on the 6-foot the overlap loses all of the border imagery. With this stand I set it to the exact size of the background and a few clamps later I am ready for lighting. It is a heavy-duty stand that is a lot better in build quality than I expected and will be a great studio stand, and with a couple of modifications and one addition (both of which I am going to make), I will use it as a portable stand. Here are my dislikes and my disappointments,I do not care for the floor plate mounting system. I am forced to carry a hex wrench with me at all times and if it is lost, the stand will not go up. Fudsey If you are reading this, please change the hex screw to a post and pin. This is one of the modifications I am making. Simple to do and with a hard rubber liner in the vertical, it will be as solid and secure as the hex bolt and 5 seconds to install the verticals in the field.Another issue that I have is that the horizontal braces have the same size end caps, however, the verticals are two different sizes between the top and bottom. The end caps (where the screw mounts to the verticals) are a perfect fit to the top but will not tightly fit to the bottom horizontal post. The end caps are really good quality and the plastic will not expand to fit the larger pole. Which is a good thing but annoying in not being able to snug it up completely.Lastly, for all the good things about this stand and the fact that it is a heavy-duty stand, it still suffers center sag on larger heavier backgrounds. I have a hand-painted 8x8 canvas background that weighs 15 lbs. and causes center sag. I was also hoping to be able to use a sound blanket that I use a great deal that is 8x8 feet and heavy close to 30 lbs. Once again a simple fix, center slip in stiffing rod.I really wanted something that I could give a wholehearted 5-star review and this is close with a couple of fixes (which I would be more than happy to buy to retrofit) this would be a 5+ star unit.DKH

Easy set up
Stand came exactly as described. One small scratch on a piece of the base but perfect other than that. I am 5’3 and it was easy to put up alone and only took about 10mins. No instructions but pieces are all labeled letting you know where to out each piece. Used for a dance competition. Easily moved once background was attached with literally one hand on each pole with no struggle. Great value for dollar amount- literally just ordered another one!
