Q: what is the point of gold plating on an optical cable? Gold doesn't transmit light!

None, none whatsoever. The gold plating is there to fool people into thinking the cable is more valuable. I'ts extremely unlikely that there's any gold at all in this product , it's just shiny gold colouring. Just to reiterate, there is no electrical connection whatsoever with an optical (Toslink) cable. The digital signal (audio) is transmitted via light pulses – hence the name optical.

Hi, you’re absolutely correct. It’s just marketing. They will say if pushed that it wears better than plastic if you plug in & out frequently but there is no evidence to support that. Gold is a soft metal so I doubt that it would make it last longer.

I don't know but electrical continuity seems always to be thought essential, perhaps for shielding. It's my personal opinion that gold plating is overhyped anyway.

Hi , You only need this cable and connect it directly to you equipment optical connection plug. eg. one side to the TV and other part to the Blue ray , AV RECEIVER OR SKY BOX. and it will work immediately. so, I hope that i have made it clear to you . many thanks
