Does what it's supposed to do for a reasonable price
We went through several months of drought last summer and fall and my lawn ended up with significant damage. I tried several different grass seed brands from here but only succeeded in lightening my wallet. Grass would not grow. This spring, I tried this brand. It grew quickly, but not as quick as some reviews indicated. It's proven to be reasonably durable and I didn't lose too much during our two heat waves. I am satisfied with the performance and will be back again in the spring to fix any winter damage.

Grows thick and fast
I ordered the wrong type of grass seed so it doesn’t match the rest of my yard but this stuff is great. Only issue I have is that it grows almost too fast. I can’t keep up mowing it.

Great Product but Pricey
Product is good. Grows in 7 days. Grows on packed dirt. A little expensive but the convenience of Amazon :) Reason for 4 stars instead of 5

IT WORKS!!! Mix with tissue to create a HYDROSEED
This product does exactly what it says. I mixed it with toilet tissue and water. It was a mushy consistency, spread it out and saw growth within four days. It was heavy rain at the time so what you see as a result of heavy rain and 2 1/2 weeks of growth. I never pulled my hose out to water The spaces. Do yourself a favor and buy this product. I purchased a total of 3 7pound bags and 2 20 pound bags. My yard is huge. I still have 27 pound bags to fill in the spaces. I left extra seed in the bag, placed it on the grass folded over. It rained for a little bit, and the seeds started growing inside of the bag.

I didn’t follow directions & it still worked!
I wanted to cover some patches from where my dogs pee and overseed the lawn to keep it thick and lush. We recently went through like a full 10 days of rain (SC) so just before the thunderstorms started I ran out back, sprinkled and overhand threw the seeds throughout the backyard until the bag was empty. I planned to buy a spreader but I forgot about the grass until I heard the thunder approaching. There are areas where I didn’t spread seeds evenly or at all but that’s to be expected given my method of throwing it around before I got caught in the rain. I let the SEVERAL DAYS OF RAIN take care of the watering so I wouldn’t have to and this grass has sprouted up everywhere. In the sandy parts, in all of the bare dirt patches and even on the fence where I probably threw seeds on the bottom post. After putting it out there I didn’t have to do to anything but let nature take its course and now I have more grass.I’m buying two more bags and spreader so I can go over the sandy bits and spots I missed in the backyard and to overseed the front lawn as well. Seems to work easy enough, just wait until you’re forecast for heavy rain OR you’ll have to actually water your lawn like a “responsible adult”.

Underwhelmed and Frustrated
I read several reviews and was trying to decide between Pennington and Scott’s. After long debate, I went with this product. I tested it by using it and Scott’s (side by side) on a small strip of grass between the road and public sidewalk. I’m not just underwhelmed by Pennington’s seed, I’ve become frustrated and unsettled over its lack of performance. So far, it’s looking like nothing more than a waste of time and money. I followed all instructions to the letter, even mowing, thatching, raking and aerating. The seed was distributed across the entirety of my back yard with a Scott’s broadcaster/spreader almost 3 weeks ago. I have timed sprinklers that run once in the early morning and again in the late evening. As far as I can tell, not one seedling germinated. From my experience, Scott’s is far superior. I used their seed at a lawn after new construction of my previous home. The ground was bare dirt, mixed with a little sand. Scott’s not only germinated and rooted well, it looked lush, green and was well-established by the end of the summer. I cannot recommend Pennington. Go with Scott’s.

The price is great but there’s too many weeds in the seed
Very slow to grow and many areas it did not grow at all properly watered fertilize and drained so I don’t know what is going on I appear to be getting more weeds than grass

Good product at a fair price
I recently used contractor-grade grass seed and was really impressed with its performance. The germination was fast, especially after a good rain, which gave it a solid start. What stood out to me was how little care it needed to get going—no constant watering or extra attention. It was a low-maintenance solution that provided quick, healthy growth. Perfect for anyone looking for an easy, reliable option for their lawn weather it is spot patching or overseeding.
