This set, once you fiogure out what order to do things, just works.It has 3 copper scrubbers to remove the worst of the dirt, and 3 expanding (when wetted) wiping sponges to wipe the residue and also them use between each solder to keep the tip clean.The pot of the cleaner/tinner is tiny, but is enough to revive quite a few tips.The instruciotns are confusing as to what order and when you do certain things. the sponges I used wet as a wipe after the scrubber clean, whihc i did cold first, then at the suggested 300c, then I dipped the tip in the tin of cleaner/tinner about 3 times (different spots) wipes on the wetted spong and hey presto, shiny new tip!Ongoing you can use a scrubber placed inside the supplied tin plus the wetted sponges to keep it clean and shiny as you solder. For £10 the valuer is ok too, given its multiple uses and things to keep it clean ongoing

Used to restore the tip on an old Antex iron. Works better than I was expecting, result is not like brand new but its close.Regarding the product picture and another review which says the sponges are not 10mm thick as advertised: they begin life very thin, almost like cardboard, but expand when wetted to look like the picture. The 10mm probably refers to the 5 dry ones stacked up. In short I think the description is fair when you understand how the things work. You would not want/need one 10mm thick in the dry state.The wire balls look and feel like copper to me, not copper plated steel as someone suggested. Yes it sticks to a magnet, but weakly - some kinds of brass do that, because of a small amount of iron. It works as it should, and isn't sharp to the touch.

I'm happy with this set. The sponges swell to 10mm thick when properly moistened.

Arrived well packaged as part of a collection of other purchased items. Unfortunately I haven't had time to try them out yet.

Not fit for purposeThe material (listed as 100% brass) is not brass, it is copper coated steel noticed because it is ferromagnetic. The purpose of a brass sponge is that it is softer than iron and will not affect your soldering rig, steel on the otherhand is harder and will erode your tip rapidly leaving scratches and gouges on the surface. This actively destroys your equipment not maintains.The tip cleaner does not list the same warnings as other containers of the same brand, the fumes off this should not be inhaled and cause a serious risk to your respiratory system.Do not buy this absolute scam of an item, it is deceptive and actively harmful to both you and your equipment.
